SSION
SSION, the multifaceted creative project of musical, visual and performance artist Cody Critcheloe, plays LPR with Cakes Da Killa this Thursday, May 21, and over the past few weeks SSION has been posting some pretty great fliers for the show on Instagram. Check them out below.

Even if you’re unfamiliar with SSION’s music (recent releases include 2011’s Bent and 2014’s Pink Christmas and a new EP, Nose Job, is on the way this summer), there’s a good chance you’ve encountered his other creative work. In addition to directing music videos for Liars, Peaches, MNDR, Santigold, Kylie Minogue, Lower Dens and numerous others, he also created the artwork for the cover of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ influential debut album Fever To Tell. Here’s an excerpt from a recent DIY Magazine feature on the making of that album cover:

“‘I had never used Photoshop before,’ he continues. ‘I feel like that’s part of the reason that it looks the way it looks,’ he laughs, ‘I just didn’t know what I was doing. At the same time I think that’s sort of what they were after. Karen sent me that movie Wild Style [Charlie Ahearn’s 1983 cult hip- hop film]. She was really into how when you go on the subway or whatnot, there’s tons of flyers on top of one another, and things get peeled away so there’s all these layers. It looks like beautiful, and trashy – it’s that feeling of New York. For me, it was something that’s retro.'”

Check out SSION’s terrific fliers for his LPR show below, but first watch his music video for “High” from Bent and live video of “Listen to the Grrrls”. And get your tickets for this Thursday’s show!
