Check out our latest interview with New Myths! They join Parrot Dream and BRAEVES for On The Rise at LPR next Tuesday 8/11.

Tell us a little about New Myths. How did you connect and start playing together?

It was really a “small world” kind of thing. Marina and I had been playing together in another band all through high school and college and then Brit and Marina had gone to high school together. I met Brit a few years later in college. At some point we figured out that we all knew each other, and Brit suggested we all start playing together!

You guys are all born New Yorkers. What are some of your favorite spots around the city?

We really love Rippers at Rockaway Beach, Ess-A-Bagel, Gotham market, and The Frying Pan if you’re looking for a bite. Also, love the High Line, Strand, and the new Whitney if you feel like wandering.

This On the Rise show was put together to celebrate up-and-coming talent in New York. Which new acts are you following right now? Anyone our readers should put on their radar?

There are so many great bands coming up in New York! We love Monogold, Charly Bliss, Total Slacker, Mr Twin Sister, Honduras, Mother Feather, and Slonk Donkerson.

There’s got to be something special about being a group of women who perform and write music together. Did each of you hope to be in an entirely female band or was it just a surprise?

I don’t think that individually we all hoped to be in an entirely female band. We’d gotten together as friends to play and it just clicked.
