Meredith Monk - Q2 Spaces
We’re huge fans of Q2 Music’s video series Q2 Spaces (see our posts on their visits to Jherek Bischoff’s unique Seattle digs and Timo Andres’ Bed-Stuy apartment), so we were excited to see that the latest episode takes you inside the Tribeca loft of composer Meredith Monk. We’ll be celebrating Monk’s 72nd birthday this Thursday 11/20 with a concert featuring pianists Ursula Oppens and Bruce Brubaker.

Here’s a brief preview of Monk’s tour of her longtime home from Q2 Music’s post on the episode:

“Monk opens a window onto her life as a practicing Buddhist. She discusses an upbringing that included singing trios with her mother and sister while doing chores around the house. We delve into her sculptured, cinematic approach to composition and the cultivation of a “beginner’s mind.” And we meet her turtle Neutron and her piano Rose.”
