Yum’s the Word 3-Year Anniversary Show

“Yum’s The Word” is a new show that blends old-fashioned birthday parties with modern- day storytelling. Each month comedian and storyteller, Robin Gelfenbien, throws a party for an audience member replete with Mad Libs, balloon animals and homemade ice cream cakes. Join Robin and some of New York City’s best storytellers for a sweet and decadent night of juicy stories and treats.

Desiree Burch

Desiree Burch is a solo performance artist, comedian, writer, actress and producer. Since 2004, Desiree has also been a weekly writer/director/performer with the New York Neo-Futurists in Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. She has performed at Caroline’s on Broadway, Gotham Comedy Club, Highlights (UK), and on the stage of Saturday Night Live, as well as in videos for MTV, VH1’s “Best Night Ever,” Comedy Central and NBC. She was featured in New York Magazine’s “Ten New Comedians that Funny People Find Funny” and has written for The Huffington Post.
 
She was also listed in the New York Post’s “Killer Jokes” (2008) alongside Roseanne, Chris Rock, Jackie Mason, Emo Phillips, Marc Maron and Louis C.K. Her hit solo piece 52 Man Pickup has visited Joe’s Pub, 59E59, Ars Nova, the Black Comedy Experiment and the International Fringe Festivals in New York, New Orleans, Hollywood, London (Camden), and The Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

John Flynn

John Flynn has been performing, writing, and directing at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade since 2004. He’s a regular performer on Nights of Our Lives, and hosts the open mic storytelling show, Oh Hey Guys, every Thursday at the UCB’s East Village theater. He is the co-creator of Showgirls: The Best Movie Ever Made. Ever! His one man shows, Themepark Superstar and Dances With Pitchforks: Confessions of a Farm Boy, have been performed at Caroline’s Comedy Club, Joe’s Pub, the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater, and theaters in Los Angeles, Boston, and Key West, Florida. He is about to release his first comedy album, Faggot Munchkin.

host Robin Gelfenbien

Robin has written jokes for emcee Rosie O’Donnell at The Matrix Awards where featured presenters included Martha Stewart, Rupert Murdoch and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Her original comedy songs have played on Sirius Satellite Radio and The Wiseguy Show hosted by Vinny “Big Pussy” Pastore. She’s been on VH1’s “Awesomely Badder Videos,” AMC’s “Liza Life Coach” with Cheri O’Teri, and she starred in a commercial directed by Spike Lee. She wrote and performed the critically-acclaimed solo show, “My Salvation Has a First Name (A Wienermobile Journey),” she has performed at The Moth, RISK! and Mortified, and she is the creator and host of the storytelling series, “Yum’s the Word.” Recently, she was featured in “Oy! Only Six? Why Not More? Six-Word Memoirs on Jewish Life” along with Henry Winkler and Larry David.
