Yum’s the Word 3-Year Anniversary Show

“Yum’s The Word” is a new show that blends old-fashioned birthday parties with modern- day storytelling. Each month comedian and storyteller, Robin Gelfenbien, throws a party for an audience member replete with Mad Libs, balloon animals and homemade ice cream cakes. Join Robin and some of New York City’s best storytellers for a sweet and decadent night of juicy stories and treats.

Desiree Burch

Desiree Burch is a writer, comedian, storyteller and actress, best known for her full-length solo shows, which have toured NY, L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans, London, Amsterdam and Edinburgh. She is a performer in Young Jean Lee’s “Untitled Feminist Show” and the staged performances of “Welcome to Night Vale”. Stand-up and short-form performances have been featured at 59E59, Ars Nova, LaMama, P.S. 122, DR2, Dixon Place, Carolines, Joe’s Pub, the New Museum, and WNYC’s The Greene Space. She is a New York Neo-Futurist, an arts educator (American Place Theater), public speaker (TEDx), and a graduate of Yale University.

Andy Christie

Andy Christie’s writing has appeared in The Moth storytelling anthology, The New York Times and in the Thomas Beller anthology “Lost And Found: Stories From New York.” He has told his autobiographical stories on Peabody Award winning The Moth Radio Hour and on WFUV’s Cityscape. His humor book, “I Wasn’t Kidding” was published by Random House in the United States and the United Kingdom. Consequently his work can be found on remainder shelves spanning two continents. He is creative director of Slim Films, a NYC-based animation and illustration studio and creator & host of The Liar Show.

David Crabb

DAVID CRABB is a performer, writers, storyteller, and host of the Moth StorySLAM. He is the co-creator of the live storytelling series ASK ME and has told stories at RISK!, Stripped Stories, The Soundtrack Series and Story Collider. David is a member of NYC’s Axis Company Theatre where his solo show, Bad Kid was named a New York Times Critics’ Pick. He teaches storytelling at The PIT and Kevin Allison’s The Story Studio. He generally dislikes sorcerers, dragons, and anything having to do with “wizardry.” This is his fourth appearance on How I Learned. That’s how similar to Diana Spechler he is.

Dawn J. Fraser

Dawn J. Fraser is a humorist, storyteller, and national speaker from San Jose, California. She is the Host and Producer of Barbershop Stories, which features some of New York’s bravest storytellers, comedians, and memoirists, as they tell live stories… while chopping off their hair. Dawn was featured as a speaker amongst some of the nation’s top innovators and change makers at TED@NYC, and currently teaches storytelling to students through The Moth’s Community and Education Program. Dawn is a nationally acclaimed speaker, and delivers speeches and workshops to students, entrepreneurs, and business owners to develop stories that engage and inspire. Her own stories about growing up as a twin and a first generation Trinidadian have been featured on storytelling shows including The Moth, Story Collider, The Soundtrack Series and RISK!

Robin Gelfenbien is the self-proclaimed Ambassador of Fun and an NYC-based storyteller, writer and comedian. She’s a three-time Moth Story SLAM winner who has performed on PBS, RISK!, Mortified and countless other shows. She’s also shared the stage with Hannah Gadsby, Trevor Noah and more.

Robin is the Creator and Host of the storytelling series and podcast, “Yum’s the Word,” that features her homemade ice cream cakes. The show has been named a New York Times and Time Out New York Critic’s Pick. Guests have included Tim Gunn, Jason Biggs, Joy Behar and stars from “Orange is the New Black.”

New York Magazine called her solo show, “My Salvation Has a First Name: A Wienermobile Journey,” “the highlight of the Fringe” and Time Out New York gave it 4 stars.

She’s performed her original comedy songs at The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and on Sirius Radio. She’s also been featured in Marie Claire magazine and she starred in a commercial directed by Spike Lee.
