event description event description

A celebration for the memory of Johnny Winter and Jack Bruce, plus a mixed set of favorites.

Recreating the spirit of Bill Graham’s Fillmore East, PO2A perform classic blues-rock from the mid ’60s through the early ’70s. A typical setlist sums it up: Cream, Blind Faith, The Band, electric Bob Dylan, Procul Harum, Stones, Zeppelin, The Band, Blodwyn Pig, Johnny Winter, The Byrds, early Who, Traffic + many more.

In early 2004, Jimmy Vivino decided to buy an iPod and set it to ‘shuffle.’ Suddenly, he found himself once again passionately listening to the music of his childhood including, Cream, Blind Faith, The Band, electric Bob Dylan, Blodwyn Pig, Johnny Winter, The Byrds, Jethro Tull, Procol Harum, early Who and Traffic. It also reminded him of those influential few years that he patronized the Fillmore East in NYC. Inquiries were made to long time friends Rich Pagano (co-founding member with Vivino of The Fab Faux) and John Conte (Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes) who eagerly jumped onboard with an understanding of that era. Under an early name for the band, Steaks and Chops, the trio drew a loyal following in downtown New York City with a biweekly residency at a westside club. As the band became more popular and honed as a true representation of the Fillmore East spirit, the name was changed and Prisoners of 2nd Avenue was born. The events became a popular must see and as the trio’s following grew, larger venues were needed. Word started to spread throughout the musician community too with friends joining Po2A on stage. Guests have included, Rosanne Cash, Al Kooper, GE Smith, Leslie West, Paul Shaffer, Warren Haynes, Will Lee, David Johansen and Levon Helm.
