Actor Jason Lee and director Eric Noren have produced and directed a new live concert film Midlake: Live in Denton, TX for acclaimed rock band MIDLAKE. The footage was captured at iconic concert venue Dan’s Silverleaf in Midlake’s hometown of Denton, TX, where the band had stopped off to play a local show while on tour promoting their fourth album Antiphon which was released November 5, 2013.

The result is a beautifully photographed 90 minute film that is both a live concert film and documentary homage to the band’s hometown of Denton, TX. The film will make its US debut at this year’s CMJ Music Marathon on Thursday October 23rd at Le Poisson Rouge. There will be a Q&A with Midlake’s lead singer Eric Pulido alongside the film’s directors Jason Lee and Eric Noren following the 6PM screening. The session will be moderated by Bella Union’s Simon Raymonde who signed the band in 2004.

Midlake: Live in Denton, TX US Premiere Screening and Q&A

About Midlake:
The band was formed in 1999 by a group of jazz students at the University of North Texas College of Music who made their debut as Midlake with 2004’s Bamnan and Slivercork. The 2006 album The Trials of Van Occupanther brought the band critical acclaim with Entertainment Weekly saying “Midlake excel at lush, harmony-laden ballads” and Mojo calling the album “…an invigorating, many-faceted work of diverse instrumentation and durability.” The band’s 2010 The Courage of Others followed which The A.V. Club praised as “…more personal…bracing—stunning, even.” Midlake’s new album Antiphon is garnering critical acclaim: “Midlake is a potent musical force,” Paste declares while Consequence of Sound hails the record as “…a strong statement” and American Songwriter praises it “…a true feat of musician ship.” Antiphon was named one of the top 10 albums of 2013 by Filter and the New York Daily News.

Midlake’s Eric Pulido

directors Jason Lee and Eric Noren

Eric Noren filmed “Way Out East!”, a video release for Jason Lee’s Stereo Skateboard company featuring songs from Midlake’s debut album Bamnan and Slivercork in 2004. Therefore the recent collaboration of Lee and Noren for Midlake: Live in Denton, TX has brought things full circle for the filmmakers and band, ten years later.
