We Heart NYC Writers Night + Open Mic – Poetry & Prose

The Inspired Word Presents We Heart NYC Writers Night + Open Mic in The Gallery at LPR.

This is a celebration of New York City writers of all types – poets, novelists, journalists, short story writers. Shows will feature as many as five carefully selected readers and a 7-slot open mic (5-minute time limit).

Newly released signed books will be available for purchase – a great chance to show local literary love.

Please share this event on social networks with the hashtag #SupportLocalWritersNYC. It’s good karma.

Produced by Mike Geffner Presents The Inspired Word

Natalie Roy

A 30-something writer, actress, yoga teacher, meditation therapist and dog lover, Natalie Roy was born and raised in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada, but now makes New York City her home. Her new book, “30,” is a series of personal stories, chronicling Roy’s journey through her first thirty years of life. Told with humor, candor, and a flare for the dramatic, she openly navigates the triumphs, traumas and theatrics of her “roaring twenties,” and offers a self-help/self-improvement book for a new generation. Roy is a celebrated actor who has worked across North America in feature film, television, and on stage. As a writer, her first one act play, “Rounding Third” was produced in New York City in 2012. Melissa Schneider

Melissa Schneider is a writer, couples therapist, and the relationship coach for https://www.luvwise.com/. She moved to Shenzhen, China, two days after her own wedding, and spent the next two years writing her book, The Ugly Wife is a Treasure at Home: True Stores of Love and Marriage in Communist China. In addition to her counseling work, Melissa blogs about the science of smarter relationships and writes for Science of Relationships. She recently gave a seminar about her book at Oxford University’s China Centre and spoke about relationship science on the Freakonomics podcast. Ms. Schneider has a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University.

Emily Klein

Emily Klein aka Quiet Storm is a poet/writer from Long Island, but is deeply entrenched in the New York City poetry scene. She is a graduate of La Sopa School of Poetic arts in Brooklyn, and has featured and performed in such noted venues/series as the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, The Poets Settlement, Canvas of Words, Brooklyn Poets, and Capicu Showcase. She just released her debut poetry collection, Ember Belly. For more info on Ms. Klein, find her page on Facebook.

Aimee Herman

Aimee Herman is a Brooklyn-based poet and performance artist looking to disembowel the architecture of gender and what it means to queer the body. Find Aimee’s poems in Troubling the Line: Trans and Genderqueer Poetry and Poetics (Nightboat Books), in the full-length collection, to go without blinking (BlazeVOX books), the recent chapbook, rooted, (Dancing Girl Press), and in the forthcoming full-length book of poems, meant to wake up feeling (great weather for MEDIA). Aimee is an adjunct professor at Bronx Community College, a faculty member with Poetry Teachers NYC and a writing mentor/workshop facilitator for the Red Umbrella Project through their memoir writing drop-in classes specifically for those in the sex trades. She is also the regular host of The Inspired Word’s monthly erotica series, Titillating Tongues. Read more at: aimeeherman.wordpress.com.
