Hiatus Kaiyote - SOLD OUT

In little under two years, Australia’s Hiatus Kaiyote has gained legions of fans from all over the world including highly-respected artists like Questlove, Flying Lotus and Erykah Badu, plus tastemakers and audiophiles like London-based DJ Gilles Peterson, Stereogum and KCRW. The band attracts such a diverse following because the music doesn’t fit within the boundaries of a single genre. Each track is like a key ingredient in the listening experience that adds to a fusion of jazz, hip-hop, electronic, opera, rock and soul.

The band’s debut album, Tawk Tomahawk, was released on July 30th imprint Flying Buddha (iTunes / SoundCloud). It includes the track “Nakamarra” featuring hip-hop icon Q-Tip. “Music has always been medication to us,” lead singer Nai Palm explains. “It’s a force for self-healing that we’re ready to share with the world.” Through a musical symbiosis, the band has created its own lane and Tawk Tomahawk showcases the breadth of their talent and love for music lyric by lyric, beat by beat.

Okay. I’m done. In love“- Erykah Badu

Oh. my. gawd. this. is. DOOOOOOOOOOOPE. this coming from a cat who drowns in music everyday…. once in a blue moon something moves me so much I’m willing to alienate friends when an UNDENIABLE project comes along. THIS is that project.” Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson – The Roots

Emily King

Born in New York City in 1985, singer/songwriter Emily King grew up surrounded by the music of her parents, jazz vocal duo Kim and Marion. By her late teens, she was playing shows in restaurants and venues around New York City including CBGB’S and The Bitter End. In 2004 King had gained the attention of Hitman producer Chucky Thompson, which led to a meeting with famed music mogul Clive Davis, and a recording contract with J Records/Sony Music. Her debut album East Side Story was released in 2007 and later received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album of the year. During that time, King toured with John Legend and Floetry, and opened for Gnarles Barkley, Alicia Keys, Chaka Khan and Erykah Badu among others.

After parting ways with her label in 2008, King continues her work independently. Her follow-up EP “Seven” was recorded in her home and released in July, 2011. Shortly after the release, King accepted an invitation from Maroon 5 to be the opening act on their 2011 European tour and has most recently joined Emeli Sande on her 2012 UK tour.

King’s carefully crafted compositions are the perfect vehicle for her polished, lush vocals that harbor both an innocence and honesty. A gentle mix of soul, folk and rock influences, King’s music emotes the kind of straight to the point storytelling that’s reminiscent of singer/songwriters of the 1970′s.
