Claudia Quintet record release

Formed by composer/drummer John Hollenbeck in 1997, this NYC ensemble explores the edge without alienating the mainstream, proving that genre-defying music can be for everyone. Over the past decade, The Claudia Quintet has released six CDs that are critically acclaimed worldwide and whose appeal extends well beyond the traditional jazz audience. The group has amazed listeners from Alabama to the Amazon – their distinctive sound has inspired dancing hippie girls at a New Mexico noise festival, the avant-garde cognoscenti in the concert halls of Vienna and Sao Paolo, and a generation of young musicians worldwide. In the course of the thousands of miles they have traveled together and hundreds of concerts they’ve played, the Claudia Quintet has developed a dynamic live sound based on trust and spontaneity. They release their seventh album in September 2013.

special guest Slavic Soul Party

Fiery Balkan brass, throbbing funk grooves, Gypsy accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops: Slavic Soul Party! is just what it says. These nine musicians have created an acoustic mash-up of Balkan and Gypsy sounds with North American music, weaving the gospel, funk, dub, jazz, and Latin influences of New York’s neighborhoods seamlessly into a Balkan brass setting and always “delivering a great time.” (New York Times)
