The original live art competition is back with their new installment in a series of events taking place this year at le Poisson Rouge. March will bring, if history is any indicator, a vibrant sell-out show bringing to life the creative process in front of a live audience. This will be the first of six events culminating with the coronation of the King or Queen of NYC Art Battles.

New York live painting community to the world. 12 artists compete in timed rounds of live painting, it’s a sizzling night of creation and celebration. The winners by audience vote move on to the Final round with a chance to qualify for New York City Championships and ultimately the US and International Finals. It’s a wild night, great music, paints flies and masterpieces are created before your eyes.

Art Battle is the story of Art, a one night party that goes from from blank canvas to beautiful creation. Artists have been coming together in NY Art Battle events since 2001, the movement has spread to more than 100 cities and 6 continents, with International Championships crowning the best live painter in the world.

Artists can apply to join the tournament at Artbattle.com – this event occurs on a monthly basis in New York and several cities across the country and the globe, come and be a part of the world’s largest live painting community, the best is yet to come!

Pesu

Pesu is a world­renowned artist and three­time winner of Art Battles. Born in Shizuoka, Japan. Pesu’s career took off in 2004, when he relocated to NYC. Besides winning Art Battles on three separate occasions, he has worked with high profile brands such as Nike iD, Coach, Whole Foods, Lacoste, Anvil, j.Crew, Evisu and EarthDay NY, just to name a few. But Pesu is much more than a celebrated artist. he has given his time and skills to organizations such as Global Autism Project, Keen New York, The American Cancer Society, The Cristian Rivera Foundation and Love Save Japan.
 
He lives his Life is Art=Art is Life mantra to the fullest and is a testament to the power of art and the success that comes from being true to oneself and living life authentically.

Zito

Once declared by NYC celebrity Patrick McMullan to be “the best quick portrait artist in the business” Zito is a pillar of the LES alt art scene and has been a fixture of NYC art for well over two decades. Once the proprietor of the now shuttered Zito Studio Gallery, Zito now splits his time between his farm in Connecticut and NYC.
 
His work has been featured in Deitch Gallery, The American Museum of Natural History, Milk Studios, The National Arts Club and Jim Jarmusch’s films Broken Flowers, and Coffee and Cigarettes, as well as collections throughout Europe. Dubbed “the master of the found object” by Village Voice, Zito is a strong and well known contender who brings life, speed and soul to anything he touches with his brush.

Demostina

Demostina is a Dominican Republic­born artist raised in Washington Heights, NYC. She has a MA in Art from NYU and did her undergraduate work at Parsons School of Design. Demostina has been painting since early childhood, where having grown up in a NYC wrapped up in a drug war gave her aesthetic essence an inimitable edge. She believes painting opened her eyes to social issues, spiritual questions and an appreciation for the power of music. You can find her signature style where hip­hop, dance culture and visual arts intersect. Causes dear to her heart include cancer, eye disease, diabetes as well as education and disaster relief.

Andre Trenier

Born and raised in the Bronx, Andre Trenier lives to create. A graduate of LaGuardia High School and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, he has continued to craft his skills working in any and every material available to him. In 2004, he co­founded Tangible Thoughts LLC, a creative collective best known for customizing high­end fashion and sneakers. Driven by a competitive nature and a passion for all things artistic, Andre continues to amaze viewers with not only his skill, but his attention to detail and pursuit for perfection.
