Ron Johnson Ron Johnson

Brooklyn-based bass player Ron Johnson’s career began in California. While working towards a B.A. degree in Improvised Music Studies (Jazz) at San Jose State University, Ron was asked to record and tour with blues guitarist Chris Cain. Ron’s real education came from six years of smokey bars and festivals from Memphis to Frankfurt, and Bangkok to Little Rock, with Cain. This also meant hours upon late night hours in a van filled with the music of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Billy Preston, Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson, and the three kings, Albert, Freddy and B.B. He also toured internationally with Joe Louis Walker and Maria Muldaur. During this period of extensive road work Ron shared the stage with such luminaries as – Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Johnny Copeland, Mike Finnigan, Jon Cleary, Mavis Staples and many, many others.
