Damian Woetzel has taken on multiple roles in arts leadership since retiring from a 20-year career as Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet. Woetzel currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Vail International Dance Festival and as the Founding Director of the Jerome Robbins New Essential Works Program. Since June 2011, Woetzel has also been the Director of the Aspen Institute Arts Program, where he creates programs aiming to further the value of the arts in society. Outside these roles, Woetzel is active as a director and producer. Among his recent projects, he directed the first performance of the White House Dance Series, which took place in the East Room of the White House and was hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama; produced culminating year-end performances for the Silk Road Connect program in collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma, with whom he works on education projects nationally; and co-produced the tribute to ballerina Natalia Makarova for the 35th annual Kennedy Center Honors in December 2012.
