guest composer Ned Paul Ginsburg guest composer Ned Paul Ginsburg

Ned Paul Ginsburg will present a seminar designed for composers whose work may be orchestrated
by others, or who orchestrate their own work; aspiring orchestrators; other media creatives and
professionals seeking to widen their general musical knowledge. Topics will include: the transformation of lead sheets and/or piano music into orchestrated film or theater music; combining synthesized mock- ups with live musicians, conceiving and notating for the guitar and drum kit; vocal arranging; dealing with ensembles of various sizes: small, medium, & large; choosing the right instrumentation, etc. Several “before and after” examples of scores will be presented. The ability to read music is encouraged, but not absolutely essential.

Time permitting, individual composers may present a recording of a midi-mockup film cue, and then engage in a speculative discussion on how the piece might be orchestrated.

Moderator Ned Paul Ginsburg is an NYC-based composer/orchestrator with 20+ years experience working in theater, film, and other media. Credits include Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theater, an Oscar-nominated film score, and Emmy-award winning television programs, as well as many celebrity entertainers and Oscar-winning composers.
