We’re looking forward to having Zammuto back at LPR on Sunday, October 26. In the meantime, we’re enjoying a few tracks that the band has shared from their forthcoming album Anchor, which comes out September 2 on Temporary Residence.
 
Formed by Nick Zammuto in 2011 after the end of his previous group, The Books, Zammuto is a four-piece band based out of Readsboro, Vermont. Anchor is the followup to the group’s 2012 self-titled debut LP, and you can pre-order the special limited edition (hand silk-screened, colored vinyl) from the band’s webstore.
 
The video for Anchor‘s “Great Equator” draws from Zammuto’s chemistry background:
 
“These images were made using a high quality visible-light dissecting microscope (color) and a Scanning Electron Microscope (monochrome). Specimens include: ‘scratched’ vinyl (made in a process described here: (Vimeo link to scratch edition), rubber stamp letters, House-fly mounted to the surface of a vinyl record, text printed at a 1 point font using laser and inkjet printers on paper and transparencies, the metal foil that contains CD data, USB electronics, Audio tape parts, coins, bills, spider mite, touch pad display etc…”
 

 
Zammuto has also shared the propulsive Anchor track “Hegenomy,” which features vocals by Daniela Gesundheit of Snowblink. “It’s a far cry from the sample-filled folk music of early releases by the Books,” Stereogum’s Miles Bowe observes, “but it also feels like a direction Zammuto has been heading in for years.”
 

 
And then there’s the equally energetic “Io”. SPIN has rightly dubbed this one as “Titanic Kraut-Pop.”
