“Goodnight Irene”- A Playlist for the Night Before Hurricane Irene

Aug

28

We, like so many New Yorkers, were looking for a way to pass the time on Saturday when the shops were boarding up their windows and the subways were totally shut down. To pass the time we’ve asked all of you to help us put together a “waiting-for-the-hurricane” playlist. Here’s what we came up with. Everyone who sent us a song that made it on the playlist is getting a free membership. I wrote the name of the first person to respond after the song. (Sorry if you sent the same song in later, we had to just take the first person to respond with a given song.) If that’s you, e-mail us at info@lprnyc.com and we’ll send you a one-year membership. If you don’t see a song you think should be here, leave a comment. Maybe I’ll update the mix-tape and give you a membership if I think you’re suggestion is good enough.

[Side note: We have put a ban on responses that include The Scorpions’ “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” Bob Dylan’s “Hurricane,” Neil Young’s “Like a Hurricane,” or Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levees Break.” We also tried to find songs that don’t have “hurricane” in the title.]

We’ve made this playlist available through Spotify. Click the link to be taken to the playlist in Spotify.
