Gotham Chamber Opera: Orientale

Gotham Chamber Opera is the nation’s foremost opera company dedicated to producing rarely-performed chamber operas from the Baroque era to the present. Founded by Artistic Director Neal Goren in 2000 as the Henry Street Chamber Opera, the company fills a unique niche for New York: it produces intimate operatic works intended for small spaces, offering audiences opera that is not a distant spectacle but immediate, involving, and powerful theater. In its first decade, the company has mounted two world premieres, seven US stage premieres and produced seventeen new productions of operas featuring the work of such noted stage directors as Moisés Kaufman, Diane Paulus, Mark Morris and Christopher Alden, among others.

MAYA

MAYA offers the uniquely compelling and rhythmically driven combination of flute, harp and percussion, performing new music, world music, and incorporating improvisations into its performances. A project of Perspectives Ensemble, its mission is to perform, record, and commission music from a broad variety of composers with a special emphasis on nurturing relationships with emerging composers and expanding its repertoire with music from a variety of traditions. MAYA has three CDs, the most recent of which is The Book of Goddesses – Music of Robert Paterson, released by American Modern Recordings. The group has been the recipient of grants and awards from the Argosy Foundation, Jerome Foundation, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the New York State Council on the Arts, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, and the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation.

Company XIV

Company XIV is a non-profit mixed media dance/theater company based in Brooklyn, New York. Founded by Juilliard graduate Austin McCormick in 2006, the company works in the mediums of live dance/theater and film. The work is contemporary, yet Baroque-inspired. Taking his cue from theatre/dance/opera under the reign of Louis XIV, McCormick seeks to unite design, choreography, and music to create compelling 360-degree experiences for audiences in which they are fully immersed in the theatrical experience. The work is a unique mash up of Classical Texts, Baroque Choreography, Eclectic Music, Pop Culture References, Opera, Burlesque, Ballet, Gender Bending, Fashion, and Theatrical Staging that has left audiences and critics breathless.
