Description:

Bonobo’s original ‘Black Sands’ came out in 2010 to almost universal critical acclaim and worldwide commercial success. Released on Ninja Tune in February, ‘Black Sands Remixed’ is the latest project Bonobo. Featuring a host of re-imaginings of Bonobo’s work, the remixes come courtesy of various cutting-edge electronic producers that share Bonobo’s love of lush atmospherics, loops of sound and sheer sonic experimentation. Contributors include: ARP101, Banks, Blue Daisy, Cosmin TRG, Dels, Duke Dumont, FaltyDL, Funkineven, Lapalux, Machinedrum, Mark Pritchard and Mike Slott.

On March 29th, Bonobo’s international “Bonobo Presents” concept night will come to New York at Le Poisson Rouge. Bonobo will be joined by three artists whom feature on the remix album. Fellow New Yorker FaltyDL, a producer that recently joined the Ninja Tune stable with his glitchy boogie-filled ‘Atlantis’ EP, and Glasgow-via-NYC’s Mike Slott, best known for Lucky 9Teen (his debut LP released on LuckyMe), his much lauded collaborations with Martyn, and his bespoke alternative soundtrack to the 2003 film ‘The Return by Andrei Zvyagintsev.’ Bonobo will also welcome a highly anticipated return to NYC from Machinedrum, who has just finished touring the globe with his Sepalcure album, in addition to working with Azealia Banks. It will be Bonobo’s birthday at midnight.

This is a general admission, standing event. Happy hour from 10-11pm including $5 well and $3 beer.

Bonobo Presents "Black Sands Remixed" Album Launch- SOLD OUT
Bonobo (DJ Set)
Simon Green was born and grew up in rural Hampshire, escaping to Brighton aged eighteen. There he fell into the jazz/hip hop/funk/soul scene centred around Rob Luis and nights like phonic:hoop. An accomplished musician as a teenager, he began producing his own tracks.

Green’s first release came on Luis’ label, Tru Thoughts, when his track “Terrapin” was included on the compilation “When Shapes Join Together” in 1999. His debut album, “Animal Magic” followed the next year, completely self-produced and largely self-played, too. Hailed as one of the “new downtempo pioneers,” Green found himself attracting the attention of other labels and eventually signed to Ninja Tune.

In 2003 he released his first album for the label, “Dial ‘M’ For Monkey.” This was a time when Green was also focussing heavily on his DJing, playing banging dancefloor sets of hip hop, funk and drum & bass up and down the country and across Europe, a period which reached its apogee with the release of the mix album “Solid Steel: It Came From The Sea.”

“Days To Come” followed in 2006, Green opting for a lusher, more live sound than on his earlier records. To tie in with this musical development, he put together and rehearsed a live band that could bring the music of his records to life. As a result he has moved from selling out the Luminaire to selling out Koko to selling out Kentish Town Forum and the Roundhouse and producing the live DVD to prove it. “Days To Come” also scooped the Gilles Peterson listnerer’s poll for Album of The Year. At the award ceremonies he met the talented UK soul singer Andreya Triana. Not only did the friendship they struck up result in Andreya’s superb contributions to “Black Sands” but Si has produced the whole of her solo debut, coming from Ninja later in the year.

Since 'Days To Come,' Bonobo has become one of Ninja Tune's biggest artists worldwide, with over fifteen million plays on Last.FM and a series of sell out tours with his live band which have moved from venues such as the Luminaire to the Kentish Town Forum and the Roundhouse. This combination of superb live shows and studio wizardry means that he is now perfectly placed to push on into a yet bigger league.

With Bonobo's fourth, most eagerly-anticipated and most accomplished album to date, 'Black Sands,' Green proved once and for all with that he is an artist and producer with his sights set on much higher prizes than to rule any dusty subgenre of dance music. ‘Black Sands’ is a record of epic reach and massive emotional pull, all held together by Green's understanding of composition and arrangement of live instruments (most of them also played by him) as well as his complete mastery of the tricks and techniques of the digital age. 'Black Sands Remixed' is a celebration of the magnificent album, with material that's never been heard before (versions of a couple of the pieces were used as part of Ninja’s 20th anniversary XX campaign) and featuring a handful of producers who are carving the future of electronic music.

Mike Slott
Over the last few years Mike Slott has cemented his reputation at the forefront of futurist hip hop production. With a style that is hard to pin down - encompassing a myriad of influences from free jazz to 80s boogie via golden age hip hop. His previous work alongside Hudson Mohawke as Heralds of Change set the benchmark for the new-school of dynamic beatmakers. Since then he has released 2 solo 7”s on All City, a split 7” with Dabrye, appeared on Beat Dimensions 2, Mary Anne Hobbs 'Wild Angels' compilation and provided high profile remixes for Warp and Citinite.

Originally from Dublin, via Glasgow, now based in Harlem NYC Mike has many places to draw upon. The son of the late-Jazz legend Mike Nolan and brother to the modern classical composer Luke Slott, Mike effortlessly embodies his influences on this release.
