Artists
Jesse Harris & Friends "Through the Night" Series
Although best known for having written and played guitar on Norah Jones’ breakout hit “Don’t Know Why” (for which he won the Grammy Award for Song Of The Year), Jesse Harris is an accomplished producer and solo artist in his own right. He has released 10 albums, including his latest releases “Through The Night” and “Cosmo” (an all-instrumental recording) and has toured worldwide. His songs have been covered by numerous great singers, such as Smokey Robinson, Willie Nelson, Cat Power, Solomon Burke, Emmylou Harris, and many others.
The Cosmo Band featuring Larry Goldings
With his signature Hammond organ style and versatility on many keyboards, Boston native Larry Goldings has traversed not only the wide spectrum of jazz where he is perhaps best known, but also the worlds of funk, pop, and electronic/alternative music. High in demand as a sideman, Goldings' sound can be heard on scores of albums by artists in virtually every musical genre. Larry has released 13 albums as a leader and has appeared as a sideman on hundreds of recordings.
Anthony Wilson
Anthony Wilson is one of the leading jazz musicians of his generation. Known for his imagination, maturity, and depth, the guitarist/composer/arranger has recorded eight critically-acclaimed solo albums since 1997, including his Grammy-nominated self-titled debut album, 2006’s “Power of Nine,” which was included in The New Yorker’s roundup of the year’s top ten jazz albums, and “Nova,” a widely-lauded collaboration with Brazilian guitarist/composer Chico Pinheiro. Wilson’s 2009 recording “Jack of Hearts,” featuring Larry Goldings, Jeff Hamilton, and the legendary Jim Keltner, approached the classic guitar-organ-drums trio format with and a spirit of play and possibility.
Michael Leonhart
Born into a musical family, Michael Leonhart has developed into one of the most imaginative musicians of his time, sought throughout the music and entertainment world as a trumpet player, producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and singer-songwriter.
Clark Gayton
You would be hard-pressed to identify a musician as comfortable with classical music as he is with jazz, indie rock, folk and reggae. You would be equally hard-pressed to identify a musician who can rock with Levon Helm (formerly of The Band) on weekends, fly to Istanbul for a command performance, pack the house weekly in New York at nublu, make recording sessions, wax eloquent about music history and the fundamentals of musicianship, tour with friends in support of their fledgling bands, and still find the wherewithal to record a big band piece from scratch in the remaining spare time (you must listen to the phenomenal re-recording of “Tina,Too”) … unless you happen to know Clark Gayton...
Mauro Refosco
Bill Dobrow
Rob Jost
Everything Changes is the solo debut of eminent ..Ursa Minor.. bassist Rob Jost. Also a noted session man, the Brooklyn based Jost has played with countless lineups featuring the very best of the New York City Rock and Jazz scenes. Some of those artists join him here, including Ursa Minor band mates ..Michelle Casillas.. and ..Robert Di Pietro.., as well as musician/producer Tony Scherr, keyboardist Ethan White and violinist Caleb Burnhans. The Peekaboos: Rob Jost founded this 12 piece rock steady band 4 years ago as an outlet for his love of that Jamaican born music that helped ska evolve into reggae. From 1993-2000 Rob played in Skavoovie and the Epitones, a Boston ska band. The Peekaboos lovingly present Rob's original music and also songs by bands like the Heptones and the Ethiopians.
special guests Tony Scherr
Since coming to New York in the 80s, Tony Scherr has become one of the city's most prolific and in-demand sidemen, playing integral roles in the music of such notable artists as Bill Frisell, John Lurie (Lounge Lizards), Steven Bernstein (Sex Mob), and Norah Jones, as well as some of New York's better-kept secrets, such as Jesse Harris and the Ferdinandos, The Wollesens, Ursa Minor, and Slowpoke.
Tony has recorded most of these latter artists at his Brooklyn home studio, helping to foster and document a tight-knit, intimate scene of players who are as skilled and daring as they are broadminded and modest.
Originally hailing from New Haven, CT, Tony played rock guitar in a garage band with his brother Peter as teens, before the two went their separate ways; Peter to become a concert bassist and film composer, and Tony to slug it out in the clubs of New York, ironically as primarily a bassist himself. His debut album Come Around is a reunion of sorts, between the two brothers, between Tony and the electric guitar, and between the brothers and the rock/song idiom. The lyrical content in particular also charts a deeply personal journey, documenting a process of overcoming catastrophe and a renewed faith in the healing power of music. Above all else, the album serves as a message of hope.
